Oxidation

Loss of electrons, seen as an increase in an atom's oxidation state. It always happens together with a reduction.

Example

In 2 Na+ClX2→2 NaCl\ce{2Na + Cl2 -> 2NaCl}, Na goes from 0 to +1+1: sodium is oxidized.
